Statement of Intent
Statement of intent
For my project of documentary posters, I will ensure that all the components of my poster follow the rules set out by ASA. For example, I’ll be making sure I don’t contain any graphic content which can include violence, bias opinion, graphic effects (blood, open wounds) or cause any fear to the audience as there will be a ranged target audience passing by.
These features are particular important to consider as the documentary poster will be showcased on billboards, city centre and local shopping centres in town, where a variety of people will see, who may not be the target audience. Such as children (younger audience) which could therefore upset or cause distress or trauma to them. My broadcast time of my product will be after the watershed since I am planning to base it around the criminal Jack the Ripper, so it could contain content that is unsuitable for young children to watch.
For the show to be successful with the audience, it must be portrayed in a sense of mystery which that it will interest the audience because it will make the viewer intrigued to find out the truth. This documentary will appeal to the target audience of any age above 16 years old because jack the ripper is a widely known criminal, which is a case that crosses the genre history, crime and psychology. As an unsolved crime from Victorian London, it invites curiosity about how people lived and how fear rapidly spread around the city. This program should interest anyone curious in history or unsolved crime. This appeals to the audience as it allows them to feel curious and because of his unknow identity it adds a sense of mystery and confusion to why he killed in such a heartless manner making people invested in the story of that time.
And when the audience compares today’s crimes to Jack the Ripper people think the case created widespread fear, media attention, and public obsession, much like high-profile cases today that dominate news and social media. Also, this show will appeal to teenage audiences since true crime and criminology are popular trends among younger generations, so it would be beneficial for fans of true crime or criminology students to watch in order to become more knowledgeable about the subject.
